Registering your 3DPassport Account and Installing the Apps
When your 3DExperience account is generated you will receive an email From Dassault Systèmes: 3dexperience@3ds.com. This email contains the link for registering and activating you account. Check your junk mail folder. Internet Explorer seems to provide the most consistent experience with the Dassault Systèmes website. The only operating system supported is Windows.
- Click the email link to “create a new 3DPassport”.
- The email address should already be filled out with username@wwu.edu, fill out therest of the registration form.
- You should now be able to login to the 3DExperience website https://eu1-academia-ifwe.3dexperience.3ds.com/.
- Java 8 Update 31 (or Higher) 32bit is required for installing the 3DExperience apps, ifyou do not have Java installed do so now. https://www.java.com/en/.
- To install the software, click the 3D button in the upper left corner.
- Click on one of the 3D Modeling Apps such as “2D Layout Insight”.
- You will be required to first Download and Install the 3DExperience Launcher. Follow the instructions on the screen, to install the launcher, then press continue.
- With the launcher installed the system should automatically try to relaunch the 2D Layout Insight app. If it doesn’t, relaunch the app.
- You should now be prompted to install the 3DExperience apps, referred to as “Rich Apps” in Dassault Systèmes documentation. Choose the option to Install All Granted Roles. Follow the instructions on screen to install the apps, use all default options. The install is approximately 13 GB, installation time will greatly vary based the download speed you receive from your ISP, and the performance of the computer. A typical install assuming a download speed of 25 mbps would take approximately 1 hour 15 minutes. You may be prompted that an update to your graphics drives is required before the Rich Apps can be installed.
- Once the Rich Apps have installed you can now use 3DExperience on your machine. Throughout the year updates are released, you will receive an email when these updates occur. You will have a period of 2 weeks in which you must follow steps 7-9, to download and install the new release of the 3DExperience Launcher and Rich Apps. If you do not update during that time period, the application will stop working.
- To run any of the 3DExperience apps, you will need to login to the 3DExperience website, select the app of you want to use (steps 5 and 6), which will launch the app locally on your computer. Some apps are entirely web based.
Accessing the Training Materials on the 3DAcademy Website
Training videos and documentation are available to anyone authorized for 3DExperience via the 3DAcademy.
- Go to the 3DAcedemy website https://academy.3ds.com/en/.
- Click the connect button in the upper right corner.
- Login with your 3DPassport account.
- You will now need to confirm your academic status. Go to the Lathe Machining Training, and Start Course https://academy.3ds.com/en/learn/lathe-machining.
- The system should already have your school issued email address filled in, if not choose the option for “My school-issued email is:” enter your email address and upload a picture of your school ID.
- It typically takes 1-5 days for account verification, then you should have access to the training materials. Most training of interest can be found in the learn online section of the website https://academy.3ds.com/en/learn-online.
