eDrawing software is a product design communication tool for sharing accurate representation of both 2D drawings and 3D models. The electronic data format of eDrawings files is highly compressed to enable easily transmission via email. When viewed with the eDrawings Viewer, these files provide intelligent interpretation tools (such as 3D Pointer, Virtual Folding, Animated Drawing View) that help the recipient to easily understand and navigate the data they receive. eDrawings files are created through the use of eDrawings Publisher add-in, which works as a plug-in to popular CAD products. Once created, an eDrawings file may be sent to anyone via email. To eliminate the frustration normally associated with 2D and 3D design data, the viewer may be embedded derectly in an eDrawings file. These files can immediately be viewed by anyone with a Windows operating system. Here, no additional CAD software or viewer s are required.
Basically, you can view any design from other CAD software apart from SolidWorks. For example, STL files, PRO Engineer files and etcetera. Many thought that eDrawings is not that important. But, believe it when I said that it is such a helpful tool when you are communicating with each other in a company internally and also externally with your customers.
Here, we are going to focus on what eDrawings can do with our SolidWorks files. First and foremost, the Layout and Overview Windows functions. Let say you have a huge file, you need to explain it to your customer on certain view only, you can ‘Create Layout’. You can also choose any other view that you need from the ‘Overview Window’.
With a function called ‘Hyperlinking’, if you have multiple section views in your drawing, you can easily double click on that section line, and it will direct you the that particular section view. You can also animate that drawing view.
‘3D Pointer’ functions as to check the position from one point to another. This is very useful if you have a complicated drawings.
This eDrawings software can also be used on simulation files. You can hide or show the flow result, and you can also make components as transparent.
Here comes the common thing that you can do with eDrawings. You can make cross-sections in eDrawings with respect to XY plane, YZ plan and XZ plane. In addition to it, you can make a cross-section with respect to a certain face or plane.
Measurement tool allows you to check the dimension or distance of your files inside eDrawings.
Last but not least, the mark up. The mark ups are some sort of a way to communicate too. In eDrawings file, you can insert notes inside.
This mark up can also be saved to be used later.
In the nutshell, eDrawings does help a lot. Just use it and save your time and money, people! J
